Why I’m Passionate About Landscape Photography
Nature + Photography = Landscape Photography, equals HAPPINESS!
I’ve always had an appreciation for nature. As a young child, my father taught me about growing flowers, and he always planted a vegetable garden. I loved watching the flowers and vegetables grow. He was an avid fisherman, and many nights we’d dine on his ‘catch of the day’!
My love of nature was renewed several years ago, following a cancer diagnosis. I found myself having difficulty controlling my emotions. I felt anxious, sad, depressed, and unsure of the future.
I noticed that following my weekly beach walk, I felt a little better. I began walking along the beach more frequently. Slowly, I began to feel less anxious and more joyful!
As I walked along the beach, I would listen to the gulls flying overhead and the sound of the waves crashing in to shore. I’d notice the feel of the breeze on my face or the feel of the sun on my skin.
I was tuning in to my senses…Nature was teaching me to be more present in the moment. I didn’t notice the negative or worrisome thoughts in my mind.
When I’m photographing,(which I’ve always loved to do), I’m focused on finding the perfect composition. I’m blessed to live on Cape Cod, which has such amazing coastal beauty. I want to capture it’s natural beauty in my photographs!
As I walk about, looking for a possible way to frame my photo, I’m not thinking about my anxieties or my to-do list. :) I’m in the moment! I’m noticing the weather and the light, and how the elements are interacting with each other.
My goal is to capture the moment with a pleasing photograph, BUT if I don’t, that’s OK! I always enjoy just being outside, and interacting with nature. My cares are left behind for that short period of time.
My time spent outside photographing the natural beauty that surrounds me is my happy time. I hope that my landscape/seascape photos bring joy to those who view them, and to those who may not have the time to get outside as often as they’d like to. :)
