The Joys of Photographing Cape Cod
I feel very fortunate to have been born and raised here on Cape Cod. My childhood was simple and uncomplicated. I grew up playing fort in the woods next to my house, collecting seashells at the beach, and going for walks with my friends.
My father was a man who knew how to live off of the land and who appreciated nature. He passed on his love of nature to me. Today, I truly love being able to photograph the coastal beauty of Cape Cod.
I want to share Cape Cod’s natural beauty through my photography. For those who may not be able to visit or experience our beautiful white, sandy beaches and picturesque woodland trails, my goal is to capture their magic with my landscape and seascape photographs.
Every time I go on a photo shoot, I’m thinking about how YOU, the viewer, will feel when you’re looking at the photo. Will you understand what was happening at that moment in time, when I snapped the photo? It’s part of the challenge of being a photographer. How can I best portray this experience I’m having right now, so that those who aren’t here with me understand it??
I happen to live in the upper Cape area. I’m close to several wonderful beaches, which have AMAZING sunsets. :) My friends and I are known to chase the sunsets… However, if I’m honest, I would love living in the lower Cape area near the National Sea Shore!
In 1961, President Kennedy established the Cape Cod National SeaShore, which consists of beaches, marshes and ponds stretching from Orleans to Provincetown. The beaches here have wave action beyond compare (for Cape Cod!)! Of course, I follow the photographers from the lower Cape on social media and often lament over the beaches and photographic opportunities they have. :) Once in a great while, I do have the chance to make the drive down Cape and happily photograph their beautiful beaches!
But seriously, I do realize how very blessed I am to live here, and I hope to continue improving my photography skills and creating prints for you to enjoy:).
